Dry-season reliables
Bougainvillea is the obvious workhorse — near-constant colour, drought-tolerant once established, and available in enough varieties to avoid the same three colours every garden seems to default to. Hibiscus flowers close to year-round in most Goan gardens with basic care. Ixora gives dependable clustered blooms and doubles as useful hedging.
Plants that actually bloom through the monsoon
This is the harder brief, and where a lot of gardens go visually flat for months. Crossandra holds up well through heavy rain. Certain gingers and heliconias, chosen for monsoon-prone beds anyway for their tolerance of wet soil, also flower well during the rains. Balsam and torenia are useful monsoon-season bedding options that most reference planting lists skip over in favour of dry-season plants.
Structural flowering trees
For larger plots, flowering trees give seasonal impact without bed-level maintenance: gulmohar and flame of the forest for dramatic dry-season colour, and frangipani for near-constant, low-maintenance blooming with the bonus of fragrance in the evening.
